Men and women of all ages in China are walking around with flowers and sprouts on their heads. It's the latest fashion accessory craze to hit the region, as clips with plastic flowers and other ornaments are selling fast.

"I have no idea who initiated the trend," said Zhou Delai, a vendor, according to CNN. "I stocked clips because so many people had wore them." Delai said that he can sell about 200 clips, priced at less than a dollar, in four hours.

The weird-but-wearable accessory is said to be inspired by a popular Chinese cartoon character in "Pleasant Goat and the Big Big Wolf," according to Metro, but a Chinese news outlet said that it first became a hit at a cosplay convention, according to the Telegraph.

On Instagram, netizens have been posting photos of this craze and tagging with #sproutcraze.
