A suicide bomber was killed on Wednesday after trying to blow himself up in the Karnak Temple, a popular tourist attraction, in the Egyptian city of Luxor.
The bomber was accompanied by two gunmen who battled local police, as part of a planned attack in the temple. The bomber and one of the militants were killed, and the other militant was left wounded and arrested.
Four other people were injured on the scene, and the temple did not endure any significant amount of damage.
The attack is believed to be the work of Islamic militants who have now changed their targets to the essential tourism industry of the country from security forces, the Associated Press reported.
The incident would have been a low blow to Egypt's tourism, which has been going through a slow recovery after a dip over the years. Tourism in Egypt had gone through a turmoil since the ousting of Hosni Mubarak back in 2011.
Despite the attack, tourism minister Khaled Ramy said that this will not dampen the country's recovery, AP reported.
