"Star Wars" fans are beyond excited for J.J. Abrams' upcoming Episode VII installment "The Force Awakens." But fans are also eager to delve into the new series of anthology films that Disney and Lucasfilm are planning.

The first, "Star Wars: Rogue One," was supposed to be directed by Josh Trank ("Chronicle," "Fantastic Four") but he and the studio recently went through an amicable split. Now, the direction of the first spinoff film, which may or may not focus on Boba Fett, is up in the air.

SchmoesKnows have a heard a rumor that Boba Fett will indeed be at the center of "Rogue One" and that the film will also feature young versions of Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Lando Calrissian (who may return in future trilogy films). But who will take over in the director's chair?

"Though no director is attached following Trank's departure, my source is saying that both Jon Favreau and Matthew Vaughn have been thought to be circling the project," Liam Gaughan wrote.

Favreau was a driving force behind the launch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with 2008's "Iron Man." His existing relationship with Disney and previous success in the blockbuster genre make him a logical choice. Vaughn has earned mainstream cache among comic book fans with his recent entertaining films such as "X-Men: First Class," "Kick-Ass" and "Kingsman: The Secret Service." His style of action has proved profitable at the box office and popular among the majority of moviegoers.
