Spokane Car Explosion Injures Man, Three-Year-Old Daughter

Officials are investigating the cause behind a car explosion that injured a man and his three-year-old daughter in Spokane, Washington on Sunday, The Houston Chronicle reported.

The two were driving in the Garland District on Sunday afternoon when the explosion happened around 2:15 p.m. The man and his daughter and just gotten in the car and driven a few blocks before the car exploded. According to witnesses, the blast resulted in car pieces getting thrown all over the street. Some even landed atop an apartment complex roof.

"Just heard a big expolsion, it shook us and immediately looked back and there was debris up in the air probably ten feet," said Asa Manchan, who was close to the scene.

People near the incident rushed to their aid directly after. Both the man and his daughter are in serious and critical condition. The girl was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane and her father was sent to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

According to KXLY TV, police officials believe the explosion was accidental but the Fire Marshall will complete a full investigation and determine a cause.

Spokane has recently had a string of rare incidents involving motor vehicles. Not long after the car explosion, a separate car crashed into Spokane Skippers, a local restaurant, early Monday morning. The driver had been driving under the influence and crashed into the establishment around 2:30 a.m. after losing control of the vehicle. The officers arrested the man shortly after.

Back in February, a different driver crashed into the same exact building around the same time at 2:00 a.m. The driver has still not be identified.
