Sonoma County Supervisor Efren Carrillo was arrested Saturday morning on when he was caught lurking about a women's window in his socks and underwear, according to multiple reports.
Carrillo, 32, was arrested on suspicion of prowling and burglary at a woman's Santa Rosa home in California.
"Officers were dispatched to a home near Stony Point Road and West Third Street around 3:40 a.m. after a reported someone was trying to enter her bedroom window," police said, according to NBC News. "En route to the scene, the victim called again to report that the suspect had knocked on her front door, said he was a neighbor and ran away, according to police."
Officials saw a man walk toward them when they arrived to the scene, wearing only underwear and socks and carrying a cell phone, who was identified as Carillo. Authorities inspected the woman's home and found the victim's bedroom window screen torn open. The hole was big enough that "someone from the outside could reach through and partially open the window," police said.
The woman called the police when the sound of her window blinds moving woke her. The victim told authorities she barely knew Carrillo, only seeing him around the neighborhood a few times last month.
Carrillo was booked Sonoma County jail and released on $40,000 bail at noon on Saturday, according to multiple reports.
The politician sent an e-mail statement to the San Francisco Chronicle, revealing he had been drinking on Friday night:
"I realize that my behavior was embarrassing," Carrillo wrote. "It involved alcohol and I'm taking immediate steps to seek professional help."
NBC News reports the San Diego City Attorney's Office prosecutors decided not to file criminal charges against Carrillo due to "insufficient evidence and conflicting accounts of the incident."
He was admitted to a treatment facility on Monday following his release, according to the Press Democrat. Carrillo has been the Sonoma County Supervisor since 2008.
