NBA Free Agency 2013: Speights goes to Warriors as Likely Replacement for Landry

Forward Marresse Speights is headed to the Golden State Warriors, according to the Associated Press.

The team confirmed the deal today although the agreement occurred earlier this week.

Speights is most likely the replacement for forward Carl Landry who was a major help to the team off the bench last season—especially in their short postseason run to the second round of the playoffs. Landry was signed by the Sacramento Kings for four years, $26 million.

Speights averaged 8.3 points per game and 4.9 rebounds last season with the Memphis Grizzlies and Cleveland Cavaliers. After being traded to the Cavaliers in the latter half of the season, he averaged 10.2 points per game and 5.1 rebounds.

The deal is for three years and approximately $11 million with a team option in the last year.

This is most likely the second most important move the Warriors have made this offseason after the acquisition of former Denver Nuggets guard Andre Iguodala. Iguodala was a great pick up for the Warriors and provides shooting, defense and passing.

The Warriors are looking to return to the playoffs and get past the second round. They will be led by shooting machine Steph Curry and power forward David Lee who provide great building blocks. The team has also done a great job surrounding them with role players. With the addition of Iguodala they have more athleticism and youth to operate their run and gun offense. He also gives the team another efficient scoring option to add to Curry, Lee and guard Klay Thompson.
