Wale is having a really good week. The "Lotus Flower Bomb" rapper scored his first No. 1 album on Billboard 200 with the release of "The Gifted" bumping Kanye West from the top spot and giving him his first chart-topper, USA Today reports.
"The Gifted" sold 158,000 copies causing "Yeezus" to drop down to the third spot with 65,000 copies sold. J Cole's "Born Sinner" is currently at No. 2 selling 84,000 copies.
A lot of factors helped push the rapper's album to the top of Billboard's chart including his hit single "Bad." The single has been constantly played on the radio since its release in February. Wale made a remake to the steamy, slow-jam with Rihanna which is included on the album, the LA Times reports. He also includes songs with Nicki Minaj, 2 Chainz, NeYo, Wiz Khalifa and Yo Gotti.
"The Gifted" follows the release of his second album "Ambition" which debuted at No. 2 on Billboard's chart in 2011. The "Bad" rapper tweeted the news to his fans posting about how grateful he was. He also thanked his boss, Rick Ross, "for believing in my vision!!"
He sent out another tweet hinting to fans that he would be releasing a new song on Monday with rapper J Cole.
Other artists rounding out the top ten include Skillet, Draft Punk, Florida Georgia Line, India.Arie, Imagine Dragons, August Burns Red and Black Sabbath. Kelly Rowland just missed the tenth spot with her new album "Talk A Good Game."
Jay-Z's news album "Magna Carta Holy Grail" is highly anticipated and is said to take the number one spot when its released on July 9. His 12th solo album was released early to owners of Samsung phones who downloaded an app. The LA Times reports that there was a lot of frustrated users who said the app crashed but the newspaper said overall the album was good and will be a hit for the rapper's fans.
