We have a release date, a screenwriter and a director but no Christian Grey or Anastasia Steele. There has been no official word on who will land the lead roles in the movie "Fifty Shades of Grey," but recently rumors began swirling that the cast was going to be revealed at the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con. E.L. James took to her Twitter page on Monday and debunked the latest rumor tweeting that it was not true.
The rumor started soon after the author and Focus Features revealed that the movie had a release date of August 1, 2014. Another big piece of news was announced when James tweeted that Sam Taylor-Johnson had signed on to direct the movie. Kelly Marcel was assigned as screenwriter back in October.
Even though James personally shut down the latest rumor it hasn't stopped fans from pitching who they believe should be cast in the movie. Fan-favorites Ian Somerhalder, Matt Bomer, Henry Cavill, Alexis Bledel, Lucy Hale and Emilia Clarke still remain top contenders for Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele but other names have been mentioned several times including Alex Pettyfer and Ashley Benson.
The latest name stirring casting buzz is Garrett Hedlund, Latinos Post reports. He is best known for his roles in "Tron" and "Four Brothers." He is also the latest to star in a fan-made trailer. He hasn't got as much buzz as some of the other actors but his fans believe he would make the perfect kinky billionaire.
Recently The Hollywood Reporter held a Twitter casting poll for the lead male character and according to what fans tweeted to the site their number one pick for Grey was Max Thieriot. He appeared in "House At The End of The Street" and "Jumper" and currently stars in "Bates Motel."
Do you think Garrett Hedlund or Max Thieriot can pull off Christian Grey?
