A bus crashed 130 feet into a ravine on Sunday, killing 18 Romanian tourists in central Montenegro. The bus reportedly fell off a bridge over the Moraca river during a rainstorm.
According to multiple reports, a military aircraft arrived in Montenegro's capital Podgorica on Monday, where 29 people have been hospitalized. The Associated Press reported that four remain in critical condition.
Romania will send planes on Tuesday to pick up survivors of the bus accident. Two medically-equipped planes will transport the injured depending on their condition, Romanian health ministry official Raed Arafat said, according to Newsmax.
No official reports are available about what caused the driver to lose control of the bus. According to reports, the winding road that leads from Serbia in the north through the Moraca canyon are known for its accidents because the narrow roads become slippery in wet weather.
Authorities said they've started pulling the parts of the bus wreckage out of the ravine. Police officials told the Associated Press that the victims will be identified by their families.
"Unfortunately, we lost 18 people and that is a huge tragedy for Romania," the health ministry official Arafat said, reported Newsmax.
Romanian President Traian Basescu and Prime Minister Victor Ponta sent their condolences to the victims. Ponta added that the country would hold a day of national mourning on Wednesday for the victims. Last March there was another deadly bus accident in western India. A bus packed with passengers crashed through a guard rail and fell off a bridge.
The vehicle was reportedly carrying passengers from the beach resort state of Goa to Mumbai when it crashed in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra, according to the New York Daily News.
Police said 37 people were killed and 15 were injured from the accident. The cause of the bus crash in India was also not immediately clear.
