“Star Wars” Creator George Lucas Ties Knot with Mellody Hobson

George Lucas has married his longtime girlfriend Mellody Hobson. The ceremony took place over the weekend at Lucas' Skywalker Ranch in California.

It's the first plunge into matrimony for Hobson and the second for the 69-year-old filmmaker who created "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones"; he was married to Marcia Lucas, a film editor, from 1969 to 1983.

44-year-old Hobson is president of an investment firm and a financial contributor to CBS News. The couple met at a business conference and started dating in 2006. They announced their engagement in January this year. Hobson said to Oprah Winfrey in an interview last year that their relationship works because they are both "extraordinarily open-minded people, and we are open to what the universe brings us."

She added, "We didn't have preconceived ideas about what a partner should be, and so we allowed ourselves to discover something that was unexpected."

According to media reports, Hobson was walked down the aisle by former US senator Bill Bradley and the ceremony was officiated by journalist and ordained minister Bill Moyers. Van Morrison played at the reception. The guests included big names from Hollywood. Francis Ford Coppola recited a Maya Angelou poem and Steven Spielberg joked in his toast that the "Force" finally had a name: Mellody. Ron Howard tweeted, "George Lucas Melody Hobson wedding was joy to behold Bill Moyers service was beautiful, nothing short of profound. Congrats Mr&Mrs Lucas." Samuel L Jackson, who played Mace Windu in "Star Wars" shared his joy at the couple's union as well. "Let's give a Galactic shout out to Master George Lucas & his Bride Melodie on This their WEDDING DAY!! Congrats!!!!!!" he tweeted.

Along with the best wishes for the newly-weds came quips that users of Twitter just couldn't resist. "Congratulations to George Lucas on his wedding. Of course, he'll go back in ten years and change the ceremony, but still," was one jocular tweet on the subject. "Sure the George Lucas nuptials were great, but just wait for the Special Edition release of the wedding video," wrote another user.
