Melissa McCarthy has much to be proud about from the success of her TV show "Mike and Molly" to scoring the No. 1 spot on the box office with "Identity Thief," the Emmy award-winner is changing the comedy field.
According to More Magazine, which will highlight the actress in their upcoming issue, she opens up about the kind words she has received from fans as she paves the way for comedy.
"The letters I really love are from young actresses who were worried they had to fit a certain look. They say I've opened it up. And I don't just mean plus-size girls," McCarthy said. "You can push things now. With all the great performances in Bridesmaids, it changed how people see funny women."
Despite the harsh words from Rex Reed, McCarthy is overlooking that and insisting that her weight is not a problem for her.
"I've been every size in the world. Parts of my twenties, I was in great shape, but I didn't appreciate it. If I was a 6 or an 8, I thought, 'Why aren't I a 2 or a 4?'" the 42-year old actress said. "Now I feel like I have two great kids and the dreamiest husband on the planet, and everything else is just a work in progress."
McCarthy praises her husband Ben Falcone for his support.
"I got hit with the lucky stick with Ben," she said.
The couple has two daughters together, Vivian, 6 and Georgette, 3. McCarthy is set to hit the silver screen with Sandra Bullock in "The Heat."
"I did not want to play two dingbats who suck at their jobs," McCarthy said about the film. "I'd rather watch a character be good at something and be challenged -- there's more to play in that."
"The Heat" hits theaters this Friday.
