Kim Kardashian Baby Name: North West Has Inspirational Meaning to the Reality Star and Kanye West

The general public was a little shocked to find out that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West had decided to name their little girl North West. Almost immediately people started joking and comparing the off-beat name to compasses and maps but the name has nothing to do with a direction. According to TMZ, the 32-year-old reality star and her rapper boyfriend told friends and family that the name has a deeper, inspirational meaning.

A source told the website, that the couple choose the name North because they actually see it as a metaphor for "up" telling everyone "What's North of North? Nothing." They reportedly see the birth of the baby as the "pinnacle of their relationship."

According to reports the baby's nickname will be "Nori." TMZ, who was able to get a copy of North West's birth certificate said the baby was not given a middle name. Back in March, the reality star did an interview with Jay Leno where she laughed off the possibility of naming her daughter North.

"There are so many rumors. That is not true... that is not one of the names on the list."

She did say she liked the name Easton, which was similar to North she told Leno. The couple might have had a change of heart. It was reported that the name was West's idea.

According to the New York Daily News, there are 15 people in the United States with the same first and last name as baby Kimye and those that the newspaper contacted all approved of the unique name.

"The name really gets attention. I wouldn't change it," North E. West, a married acupuncturist from Pennsylvania told the newspaper. "With me, it worked in the dating scene. It was just interesting and unique and set me apart."

His mother told the paper that the name was chosen by his father for reasons unknown to the family but his mother liked it.

"My husband just came up with North E. West and it sounded pretty good to me," his mother Ferne West said to the paper. "I like it. I like the idea of it. It's free-spirited."
