"Girls" premieres season four this weekend, but fans can already look forward to a fifth season.

HBO programming president Michael Lombardo announced the fifth season renewal for "Girls" at the fourth season premiere event on Monday at the Museum of Natural History in New York City, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show will return to the air on Sunday, Jan. 11.

Lena Dunham created and stars in the series that remains one of HBO's strongest programs. She and the show will compete for another Golden Globe award (they last won in 2013) at the ceremony also taking place on Sunday evening.

Dunham co-stars with Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet and Adam Driver. The 28-year-old actress shares showrunner duties with executive producer Jenni Konner. Judd Apatow also serves as executive producer on the HBO show.

"Girls" premieres on Sunday, Jan. 11 at 9 p.m. on HBO. It's followed by the return of "Looking" for its second season and the new series "Togetherness," starring Mark Duplass, Melanie Lynskey and Amanda Peet.
