Johnny Depp Breaks Silence on Vanessa Paradis Spilt

For the first time, Johnny Depp opens up about the end of his 14-year relationship with Vanessa Paradis.

Rolling Stone, which features the actor on their cover, broke the news.

"The last couple years have been a bit bumpy," Depp said. "At times, certainly unpleasant, but that's the nature of breakups, I guess, especially when there are kiddies involved."

Depp and Paradis had been together since 1998 until they ended their relationship last year. The couple have two children together, Lily-Rose, 14 and Jack, 11.

"Relationships are very difficult. Especially in the racket that I'm in because you're constantly away or they're away and so it's hard. It wasn't easy on her," the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star said. "It wasn't easy on me. It wasn't easy on the kids. So, yeah. The trajectory of that relationship -- you play it out until it goes, one thing leads to another.

"So for whatever reason that ceases, it doesn't stop the fact that you care for that person, and they're the mother of your kids, and you'll always know each other, and you're always gonna be in each other's lives because of those kids. You might as well make the best of it," he said.

The 50-year old actor is known for his many romances, which include Jennifer Gray, Winona Ryder and Kate Moss. However, the break up with Paradis was handled much differently. Depp did not turn to alcohol to help deal with the pain. Instead, he wanted to make sure his kids were going to be okay with the decision.

"They've been incredibly understanding, incredibly strong throughout the whole ordeal. And it's hard on every side," he said. "You know, Vanessa's side, certainly not easy. My side, not easy. The kids are the most complicated."

Depp is set to star alongside Armie Hammer in "The Lone Ranger" set to be released on July 3.
