Miss Connecticut, Erin Bradley, may have been crowned as the winner of the Miss USA Pageant but everyone is talking about Miss Utah and how she stumbled and stuttered her way through the interview portion of the competition.
Marissa Powell, 21, from Salt Lake City was asked her thoughts about income disparity between men and women during the Q&A segment of the televised pageant.
According to the Daily Mail, the model, actress and singer choose "Judge 3" from the bowl on stage. Celebrity judge Nene Leaks from "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" read Powell her question.
"A recent report shows that in 40 percent of American families with children, women are the primary earners yet they continue to earn less than men. What does this say about society?" Leaks asked.
Miss Powell's response: "I think we can relate this back to education, and how we are continuing to try to strive to figure out how to create jobs right now. That is the biggest problem right now. I think especially the men are... um... seen as the leaders of this, and so we need to see how to... create education better. So that we can solve this problem. Thank you."
In the video it appears that she was aware that she was struggling through the question as her voice began to quiver and she took several pauses grinning sheepishly at the audience. The audience cheered her on but several people took to Twitter to mock Powell.
Powell went on to place third-runner up with Erin Brady, Miss Connecticut, crowned as the winner after she answered a question about the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to carry out DNA tests. Brady response to being asked if she agreed with the decision to take swabs from the cheeks of people who had been arrested, she said she did support it because they had committed a crime.
