There's a new name in the "Fifty Shades" movie cast rumors and it's quite an unexpected name. Selena Gomez is now being mentioned for the role of Anastasia Steele in the movie "Fifty Shades of Grey."
According to Hollywood Life, a source said Gomez is open to doing nude roles to help advance her career. She recently has been trying to separate herself from her days as a wizard on Disney's hit show "Wizards of Waverly Place."
"Now that Selena is growing up to be a more serious actress and separating herself from her Disney past, she has no problem going topless if the role calls for it," the source said, adding "Without a doubt, Selena would go topless in a film if the role was right."
Maybe playing Steele in the highly anticipated move is exactly what Gomez needs to take her career to the next level. This would be, of course, a huge step the 20-year-old. Not only would the actress cast as Steele need to be comfortable being in her birthday suit, she would also have to be ok doing some kinky, kinky sex scenes.
For a first timer, this could be too much for Gomez to handle. The movie is said to have a rating of NC-17 which means it will be a risqué and different role for the young actress even though she appeared in the movie "Spring Breakers."
The Motions Picture Association of America describes an NC-17 rating as a "motion picture in one that, in the view of the Rating Board, most parents would consider patently too adult for their children 17 and under. No children will be admitted." They go on to say that it does not, however, mean "obscene" or "pornographic." Just to get a sense "American Pie" was also rated NC-17 while the controversial "Spring Breakers" was R.
Not everyone was excited about this news. One user commented on Hollywood Life's article saying they would no longer be a "selenator" anymore. "I like Selena cuz she's mature and not slutty if she does this then she'll be like everyone else."
Another user commented writing: "I like Selena, and I've supported her for a while, but if she does, I won't support her. That's how much I like her."
Latinos Post, however, is not opposed to the idea.
"If Gomez is indeed considering roles without a top, and is actively seeking a more mature line of work, then '50 Shades of Grey' would undoubtedly fulfill both those requirements," they write.
Some feel at 20-years-old Gomez is too young for the role while others say she looks too young and innocent. Compared to the other lead contenders she definitely fits the part and looking so young and innocent could be a good thing. In the book Steele is described as young and innocent.
If this latest rumor is true Gomez is up against some stiff completion as Alexis Bledel is still the top contender for the role of Steele.
