"Yeezus" preemptively made its way onto the Internet on Friday when an employee from Def Jam record label allegedly leaked the album.
The illegal leak of Kanye West's sixth studio album was found in full on a password protected file-sharing site, according to SPIN magazine.
"Yeezus" track list:
1. "On Sight"
2. "Black Skinhead"
3. "I Am a God"
4. "New Slaves" feat. Frank Ocean
5. "Hold My Liquor" feat. Chief Keef and Justin Vernon
6. "I'm in It"
7. "Blood on the Leaves"
8. "Guilt Trip" feat. Kid Cudi
9. "Send It Up" feat. King L
10. "Bound 2"
Leaks are common in the age of digital music, and sources told TMZ that West is "completely unfazed that his album dropped early." According to TMZ, the record company already has a lead on who is responsible for the leak and "plans to take swift punitive action."
The New York Daily News gave the album a positive review:
As tipped by its brilliant prerelease singles - "New Slaves" and "Black Skinhead" - the entire disc rethinks industrial rock of the early '90s for both a new era and genre. The raw, dark and minimalist reliance on stabbing, bristling synths recalls a sound pioneered by acts like Ministry, Skinny Puppy and Nine Inch Nails 20 years ago. But it finds a hip-hop corollary for it and adds many serrated twists of its own, aided by key production from Daft Punk and Rick Rubin.
However, the Daily News did harp on the lack of creativity in West's lyrics:
The lyrics won't win any prizes for hip-hop complexity. Compared with wordsmiths like Jay-Z, they seem rudimentary. But that's by design. The accent is on the terse, with most words operating like riotous punk slogans.
"Yeezus" will officially drop on June 18 to reportedly sell 500,000 copies its first week.
