As fans get ready for “Avengers 2” there is a bit of buzz around who should play the superhero Quicksilver. According to the Chicago Tribune, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the front runner for the role.
Johnson, whom you may know from the action-comedy “Kick Ass,” may get to play one of the two new heroes coming to the big screen in the “Avengers” sequel, the other being the Scarlet Witch.
Both characters are twins and children of Magneto—whose rights are technically the property of 20th Century Fox.
The Quicksilver Character is owned by both Fox and Marvel. Director Bryan Singer recently got Evan Peters, Johnson’s co-star in “Kick-Ass” to play Quicksilver in “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”
Quicksilver shares similar traits to DC Comic character Flash, specifically his superhuman speed. If Johnson were to get the gig, he may face some scheduling issues with “Avengers 2” and other jobs.
Johnson recently appeared in “Savages” and “Anna Karenina.” You will also be able to see him in “Kick Ass 2” when it hits theaters August 16. The young star is in the midst of filming Legendary Pictures’ “Godzilla.”
Many characters are expected to return for “Avengers 2,”—Thor, Captain America, Hulk and Hawkeye. They are all supposed to be played by the same actors from “Avengers.”
Robert Downey Jr., has not officially signed a contract to continue playing Iron Man. However, according to ScreenRant, Downey said he would like to return as Iron Man/Tony Stark.
Also, Joss Whedon has “no intention" of shooting “Avengers 2” without him.
According to the International Movie Database, “Avengers 2” is expected to hit theaters in 2015.
