Javier Bardem is the latest addition to the James Bond family and the newest villain in the Bond saga. The Oscar-winning star with his amazing acting skills and bad hairdo fits the part of the villain, Raoul Silva, who is obligated to destroy James Bond.
In a recent interview with "Flicks and Bits," the 43-year-old Spanish actor said: "He's sort of an angel of death - a very clean-shaven person who happens to be rotten on the inside. It's always about who's the person behind the character. It would be very difficult for me to play a role that I just saw as some kind of symbol. In this case, there is a man suffering, a man full of pain and frustration, who simply wants to fix the situation."
Bardem also says he was able to understand the character so well that he was able to portray it the best way and make it look more real. His character has links to both Bond and M -Judi Dench - with a complex history. "Skyfall has a lot of depth, because of the story of M and the relationship with her and Daniel Craig's James Bond. And also the entrance of this other man who really was, in one way, in love with her," he disclosed.
Director Sam Mendes says he wanted "Skyfall" to be more like old classics and pays tribute to films like "Dr.No."
"I wanted Silva to sort of be a throwback to the slightly more theatrical Bond villains of the 1960s. I thought, 'Who would I most want to see playing a Bond villain?' It took me about me about 10 seconds to come up with Javier," Mendes said.
