Stephen Colbert is setting aside one full-hour June 12 for a very special guest on his show, "The Colbert Report." Paul McCartney will perform and interview with Colbert.
McCartney is set to perform songs from his Out There Tour and "Wings Over America" which will be reissued this year, according to EW. This will be the first time McCartney has appeared on the show since 2009, making it only the second time in the show's history. But McCartney was only a part of a segment on his first appearance and did not perform. This will be the first time the Beatles legend has played on the show.
Just two days following the Colbert set, McCartney is scheduled to perform again at Bonaroo on June 14 in Nashville.
"I think this McCartney kid's got something special and I'm gonna put him on the map!" Colbert said in a news release, according to EW.
McCartney may have more to chat with to Colbert than music, however. Getting in to a political mindset, McCartney wrote a letter in May to Russian authorities asking them to free detained controversial rock band Pussy Riot who were arrested for reasons of political content and vulgarity in their music.
McCartney has been taking America by storm during his recent tour and stopping to have fun along the way. He recently visited Elvis's grave to pay his respects and to leave a guitar pick while touring Graceland.
The McCartney special is only the second time Colbert has dedicated one full hour to a musical guest. The first was when he hosted Radiohead in 2011, according to Rolling Stone.
The McCartney special will air 11:30 p.m., EST on Comedy Central.
