Jodie Foster To Be Awarded Lifetime Achievement At The Golden Globes

Jodie Foster will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the annual Globes ceremony in January as announced by The Hollywood Foreign Press Association on Thursday.

The 49-year-old actress, who won two Academy awards, three BAFTA awards for her two films, two Golden Globe Awards, a Screen Actors Guild Award, a People's Choice Award is now adding another to her collection, Golden Globes' lifetime achievement award. DeMille award winners are selected by the HFPA board of directors.

This award was honored to Morgan Freeman earlier this year. Previously the DeMille award was given to Robert De Niro, Steven Spielberg, Barbra Streisand, Jack Nicholson and Clint Eastwood.

Foster was also nominated for her first significant role in the film "Taxi Driver" in 1976 when she was 13 years old. She was awarded the Best Actress by the Academy awards in 1989, for her role as a rape victim in the movie The Accused. She had many other popular movies which included "Candleshoe" (1977), "Contact" (1997), "Panic Room" (2002), "Flightplan" (2005), "Inside Man" (2006), "The Brave One" (2007), "Nim's Island" (2008) and "Carnage" (2011). Foster was nominated by the Golden Globe Awards for Best Actress in musical or comedy for her role in Carnage. She will soon be seen as a government official sci-fi sage "Elysium" directed by Neil Blomkamp.

Foster who will turn 50, on Nov. 19 is the youngest of her siblings. She graduated in 1980 from French-language prep school, the Lycée Français de Los Angeles. She then went to Yale University and got her bachelor's degree in 1985.

"Jodie is a multifaceted woman that has achieved immeasurable amounts of success and will continue to do so in her career," said HFPA president Aida Takla-O'Reilly. "Her ambition, exuberance and grace have helped pave the way for budding artists in this business. She's truly one of a kind."

The announcement was made Thursday by lifetime achievement by Takla-O'Reilly, Simon Baker- "The Mentalist" star and Kristen Stewart.
