Florence Welch, the English goddess at the head of the alternative rock group Florence + the Machine, may be the next big star to be seen on the "Star Wars" big screen, according to Contact Music.
The "Sweet Nothing" singer is being scouted, Contact Music reported. They say Welch could be considered for a top role in the film that would turn her into an A-List actress overnight.
Welch has released two albums with her group Florence + the Machine, "Lungs" in 2009 and "Ceremonials" in 2011. The group was nominated in the Best New Artist category at the 2011 Grammy Awards. At this year's awards they were nominated for the single "Shake it Out" for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and for Best Pop Vocal Album for "Ceremonials."
Welch was featured on the Calvin Harris track "Sweet Nothing," that tore up the charts after being released in 2012. Her group also released a track "Breath of Life" for the "Snow White and the Huntsman" soundtrack. Welch has not embarked on a serious acting career, but sources tell Contact Music that despite the small amount of acting she has done, their choice was based on her singing. There is no doubt they think she would be able to pull off a serious role in the new 'Star Wars' triology.
Three installments of the films are expected to be released in 2015, 2017 and 2019, according to The Guardian. Since the series is rumored to begin filming in England, Welch won't have to travel far from her homeland if she lands the part.
Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford, stars of the original trilogy have expressed a willingness to return to the series and possible talks on that happening, according to The Guardian.
