Oregon Man Claims Apple Store Employee Wrote Gay Slur On Receipt

A customer who visited an Apple Store in Oregon claims one of the employees wrote a gay slur on his receipt, OregonLive.com reported.

Adam Catanzarite, who self-identifies as queer, visited the Portland Apple Store on July 8 and bought a pair of headphones for $29.

The receipt Catanzarite got in exchange for his purchase was fine- except for the characters "f@g.com" the employee allegedly typed in the space where the customer's email address is supposed to go, according to a picture of the receipt he posted Tuesday on Facebook.

"I got called a f@g by an Apple employee here in Portland," he wrote.

Catanzarite, who works with the Cascade AIDS Project, wrote that he alerted the store manager about the incident but the manager did nothing about it, which led him to share his experience on social media.

"Being queer and having worked with queer youth, I know first-hand that this is an example of the type of #homophobic beliefs and actions that lead young people to harm themselves," Catanzarite wrote on Facebook. "This type of action is NOT OKAY, especially from a company that prides itself on being LGBTQ inclusive and welcoming."

The photo has since made the rounds on the Internet, making its way to Imgur and Reddit by Tuesday afternoon, the newspaper reported.

As of Friday the receipt was viewed over 40,000 times on Imgur.

Apple spokeswoman Michaela Wilkerson told the newspaper they are aware of the incident but declined to give a comment.

This is not the first time customers have found homophobic comments written on their receipts. A transgender woman filed a complaint against a hookah bar in Washington D.C. in June after she and her friends got a receipt that read "gay bitches," according to The Huffington Post.
