Northfield police said Rapper Chief Keef, whose birth name is Keith Cozart, was taken into custody after he sped past police at 110 mph on Eden Expressway, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The 17-year old Cozart was going north on the expressway in a 2011 BMW X6 M at 3:45 a.m., when an officer of the Northfield Police Department saw him, said Northfield Deputy Police Chief Claude Casaletto.
"He was clocked at 110 in a 55 mph zone," said Casaletto. "The officers typically sit off on the shoulder and wait for speeders. He came up as a high number."
Cozart was driving with three other men in the car. The officer allowed one of the other individuals to continue driving the BMW after Cozart was arrested.
The rapper was cited for driving 110 mph in a 55 mph zone in addition to having an excessive amount of passengers in the vehicle, said Casaletto. Currently, Cozart has a driver’s permit which allows at most one other passenger in the car.
According to the police report Cozart’s address is on Pfringsten Road in Northbrook, Illinois. Casaletto added a court hearing has been scheduled for June 17.
This arrest comes a week after Cozart was taken into custody by police from Dunwoody, Ga. following complaints that marijuana smoke was coming from his Le Meriden hotel room.
He was also arrested on gun charges in March after pointing a gun in the direction of a Chicago police officer. During his 18-month probation sentence he was instructed to stay away from firearms. He violated that restriction when he fired a gun at a gun range. Cozart shot the gun because he was doing a promotion on camera for his music in the summer of 2012.
He was given a 60-day sentence for the violation.
