Man Shoots Daughters With Children In California Home Then Commits Suicide

Authorities say a man in Orosi, California shot his two daughters—ages 37 and 33—and then committed suicide with his three young grandkids in the home, according to the Associated Press. One daughter was fatally wounded and the other is suffering from critical injuries.

According to a statement from the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department, an 8-year old girl heard shots fired and called the authorities. When law enforcement arrived on the scene, they discovered Anthony Alvarez, 63, deceased from what looked to be suicide by gunshot.

His daughter, 37-year old Jennifer Kimble, was discovered dead due to multiple gunshot wounds. She was a mother of two boys and one girl. She had a 13 year old boy, and 11-year old boy and an 8-year old girl.

Authorities say the children were not harmed and have returned to their father. He was at work at the time of the shootings, law enforcement said.

According to Sherriff’s Spokeswoman Sgt. Chris Douglass, Valerie Alvarez suffered at least one gunshot wound. She had been stabilized from critical condition and was going for surgery at a hospital in Fresno.

Authorities are fairly sure Anthony Alvarez shot his two daughters and then took his own life with the gun.

According to Douglass, “It's a very cut-and-dried case.”

Orosi, California is a small town 20 miles outside of Fresno. It is populated by approximately 9.000 people.

Kimble was a cafeteria employee at an elementary school close to the house. Her supervisor said she was dedicated and caring.

"I'm just as surprised as anyone else right now," Director of Food Services at Palm Elementary Brenda Lightfoot-Handy, told the Fresno Bee. "I'm just trying to process this.
