As I Lay Dying Singer Tim Lambesis Was On Steroids During Murder Plot

As I Lay Dying lead vocalist Tim Lambesis was reportedly on steroids when he asked a hit-man to kill his wife, according to his lawyer, U-T San Diego reported.

Lambesis was arrested earlier this month for allegedly asking an undercover police officer, who he thought was a hitman, to kill his estranged wife. The heavy metal frontman pleaded not-guilty to charges of solicitation of murder at his arraignment.

The singer's wife, Megan Lambesis mentioned a preoccupation Lambesis had with bodybuilding and how that affected their family, in divorce documents. Documents indicate she was concerned about his lack of commitment to their three adopted children, whom she said he only saw for ten hours each week when he wasn't on tour.

The singer's lawyer Thomas Warwick, said Lambesis started taking steroids when he was bodybuilding, which ultimately affected his decision-making leading in to the alleged murder plot, according to the U-T San Diego.

"His thought processes were devastatingly affected by his steroid use," Warwick said in a statement to the court.

Details on the reported steroid use emerged Friday during a request for bail reduction to the court through Warwick. The judge reduced Lambesis' bail from $3 million to $2 million, U-T San Diego said. But his lawyer still protested the reduction, saying the singer could not afford the amount and has asked for a $250,000 amount to be set.

Defense Attorney Anthony Salerno had said he didn't see the $3 million as a problem for Lambesis to pay during the arraignment, the AP reported.

Prosecutor Claudio Grasso said Lambesis didn't flinch when $20,000 was suggested as the price to have his wife killed when presented the figure by the perceived hit-man, she said during the arraignment. Lambesis allegedly gave the officer $1,000 as a payment for the planned murder.
