Jennifer Hudson Joining 'American Idol' For Season 13?

Could "American Idol" see one of their most accomplished alumni join the judging panel next season?

According to The Wrap, Jennifer Hudson is currently in talks with the singing reality competition to join the judging panel for season 13. The Oscar-winning actress and Grammy-winning singer was a finalist on season three.

The Weight Watchers spokesperson appeared on the finale last week and sparked an interest to join the show.

"She got the offer and her reps are currently negotiating with [the show's production company] Fremantle," the source said.

"The show's producers feel they've lost their core audience," the insider continues to explain Idol's reasoning for bringing in Hudson. "And they want to bring back former contestants in order to tell their core audience, 'We love you.' They know they've made some major mistakes over the past few seasons and they want to make it right with their fans."

The same sources revealed that season one winner Kelly Clarkson was in talks to becoming a judge next season.

Season 12 of "American Idol" did not perform as well as expected despite the big names on the judges panel including Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj. Randy Jackson, who has been on the show since season one, announced he would be stepping down from the judging panel.

Minaj is reported to be leaving the show and Keith Urban expresses that he would like to stay on the show. As for Carey, no word yet if she will be returning next season.

Rumors also began swirling that Jennifer Lopez was offered the opportunity to return to the judging panel. Lopez left the show after season 11 along with Steven Tyler but reports indicate that they want to bring her back due to the low ratings.

Season 12 of "American Idol" concluded last week where Candice Glover was crowned the winner making her the first female winner since Jordin Sparks in season seven.
