Singer Sues McDonalds: Gospel Artist Claims Voice Is Ruined After Swallowing Shard of Glass

A 52-year-old gospel singer from Brooklyn, N.Y. is suing the fast-food chain after eating a chicken sandwich she bought at a lower Manhattan location.

Jacqueline Simpson said she bit into the sandwich and swallowed a piece of glass "as big as a penny."

Simpson said the incident happened in May of 2010 but has decided to file a lawsuit because her singing voice is ruined. Simpson, who sings gospel music as a hobby, told the New York Post that her voice has not been the same.

"Now when I sing, I have a hoarse voice. I still sing alto, but I can't sing soprano like I used to," she told the newspaper.

She also claims that she noticed the change in her voice immediately and the change was so drastic that Simpson says she gets mistaken for a man. She told Business Insider that she works as a clerk for the state Attorney's General Office and her job requires her to make a lot of phone calls and people are always mistaking her for sounding like a man.

McDonald's has made headlines in the past over lawsuits. In Brazil, a McDonald's franchise was fined for advertising unhealthy Happy Meals to children. In Michigan, a Muslim community received $700,000 in a settlement after McDonald's falsely advertised food preparation that violated Islam.

Another lawsuit claims that a four-year-old suffered second degree burns after a cup of hot coffee burned her hand. The child was given the coffee to hand to her grandmother when the lid fell off and burned the young girl. The grandmother is seeking $4 million in damages.
