Soap opera star Matthew Cowles has died at the age of 69.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cowles, best known for his role as Billy Clyde Tuggle on "All My Children," died at his home on Thursday. The actor's manager, Tsu Tsu Stanton, confirmed the news via Twitter on Friday.
"#Matthew Cowles passed away on 5/22. I had the pleasure of being his manager," she wrote. "He was a very gifted and kind man who loved life and everyone."
A cause of death was not immediately available, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Cowles' career in film and television spanned more than four decades.
Born on Sept. 28, 1944 in New York City, Cowles landed his first role on "NYPD" in 1969. In addition to his role in "All My Children," Cowles has appeared in the "The Bold and Beautiful," "Miami Vice," "Oz," and "Life on Mars." He earned two daytime Emmy nominations for his portrayal of Tuggle.
Cowles has taken the stage for several Broadway productions including "The Time of Your Life" and "Sweet Bird of Youth." He has also appeared in Hollywood films including "Slap Shot," "Shutter Island," "City by the Sea" and "American Loser."
He has also written three plays: "Mexican Standoff at Fat Squaw Springs," "Our Daily Bread," and "Noblesse Oblige."
"All My Children" former head writer Jean Passanante tweeted her condolences, called Cowles "a sweet man and a uniquely talented actor." Cady McClain, Cowles' former "All My Children" co-star, called his passing "so sad" on Twitter.
Cowles is survived by his wife of 30 years, "The Good Wife" actress Christine Baranski, and their two daughters.
