An actor who played a Los Angeles police officer on FX's now-ended police drama "The Shield" has been charged with the shooting death of his wife, police said.
Michael Jace, 48, was charged with homicide on Tuesday after police found his wife April Jace, 40, shot to death inside their Los Angeles home, Los Angeles Police Detective Lyman Doster told CNN.
Police arrived at their home on Monday night in response to a call about a shooting. Michael Jace reportedly called police and said he shot his wife, according to Fox News. The husband was detained at the Hyde Park area home and was charged with April's death the next day.
Michael starred as rookie LAPD officer "Julien Lowe" on the police drama "The Shield" from 2002 until the show ended in 2008. He was featured in 89 episodes, with his character, who was confused about his sexuality, rising through the ranks to later become a detective. The New Jersey native also appeared briefly in "Forrest Gump" starring Tom Hanks and played basketball legend Michael Jordan in the TV movie "Michael Jordan: An American Hero" in 1999, according to Fox News.
The actor also reprised his role as an officer on several other crime dramas, including "The Mentalist," "NYPD Blue," and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."
The night of the shooting Michael apparently called 911 and said, "I shot my wife," according to TMZ.
Michael and April Jace were married for nearly a decade and have two kids under the age of 10, according to TMZ. It is not clear where the kids were at the time of the shooting.
