"The Voice" finalist Christina Grimmie seems to have an edge over the other two contestants after the first part of the season finale came to an end, Monday night.
"The Voice" Season 6 Finale is underway and fans can't wait to see who wins the show. This year the show hosted shining talents like Sisaundra Lewis, Kristen Merlin, Kat Perkins, Delvin Choice and Audra McLaughlin.
Last night the three finalists - Christina Grimmie, Josh Kaufman and Jake Worthington took the stage to fight for votes one last time. Though there's no doubt that all three signer are very talented and deserve to be in the finals, there's no denying that Grimmie has an edge over the others - not necessarily talent wise. This 20-year-old girl from New Jersey has an "X factor" that keeps you waiting for her performance each week. It doesn't hurt that she's a YouTube sensation already and has over 531,000 fans.
Monday night showcased the contestants singing two songs each. One song was chosen by the viewers while the other was their coach's choice. First up was Grimmie. It came as no surprise that the audience choose Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" for her. This is the same number that Grimmie chose for her blind audition, turning all four chairs and making her the frontrunner in the competition. As appealing as the performance was, it lacked the punch and fire we saw during the blind auditions. The singer was more restrained, letting go only towards the end of the performance. Her second song for the night was "Can't Help Falling In Love" by Elvis Presley. It was an interesting song choice and she managed to draw the audience in with her performance. She added a twist to the arrangement, giving her performance an extra "oomph" factor.
Country singer Worthington's take on "Don't Close Your Eyes" by the late Keith Whitley was spot on. Worthington's voice was great on the old-time country ballad and brought to mind George Strait and Tim McGraw. Worthington's second tune was Richard Marx's "Right Here Waiting". The ballad, similar to the song he did last week (Heaven by Bryan Adams), began with two gates opening with his initials on them. Unfortunately the performance failed to create a great impression, leaving the audience waiting for something more.
Kaufman's first song was Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours". The singer was noticeably strong, just as noticeable was his hat that went missing for a few weeks. A full ensemble of horns and backing vocalists pushed Kaufman to new heights for a rousing finish. Closing the show was Kaufman's final song choice: Adele's "Set Fire To The Rain." Kaufman ended on his knees to sell the song and might have left with a 'puncher's chance' at overtaking Grimmie.
Tonight the winner will be announced, though early predictions have it that Grimmie will win, with Kaufman coming in as runners up.
