Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel To Attend 'Ready For Hillary' Fundraisers

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel will attend two "Ready For Hillary" fundraisers next month, USA TODAY reported.

"Hillary is smart, she's determined, and most importantly, she is a champion for the American people," Emanuel said in a statement. "I'm proud to make my support for her official, and I'm even prouder to join more than two million Americans encouraging her to run."

Both events are scheduled for June 5 and will cost attendees $20.16.

"When I worked with her in the White House, I saw what an effective leader she was - like when she spoke out on women's rights in Beijing and when she played an instrumental role in passing the Children's Health Insurance Program," Emanuel said. "I've seen first hand how Hillary has inspired women and men, and girls and boys, here in America and across the globe, and I know that as president, she would continue to move our country forward."

Emanuel, a former political director for President Bill Clinton and chief of staff for President Barack Obama, said on CNN in October that he would support Hillary Clinton if she chose to run for president.

"I'm behind Hillary if she runs. And I think she will, but that's up to her," he told CNN. "If she runs, I'm in."

The pro-Hillary superPAC has raised $5.75 million since it launched last year, MSNBC said. Emanuel is joined by several other prominent Democrats who have expressed their support for a potential bid by Clinton, including U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer, U.S. Ambassador Caroline Kennedy, and U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler.

Later in June, President Clinton will speak at a fundraiser for Emanuel in Chicago, according to POLITICO.
