In a recent interview with BBC Radio 1, Coldplay band member Chris Martin spoke about the "mess" behind his split from Gwyneth Paltrow and what a big "One Direction" fan he is.
Chris Martin's breakup with Gwyneth Paltrow made headlines. During a new sit-down with BBC Radio 1, Coldplay's frontman admitted that he was to blame for the divorce.
"About two years ago I was a mess, really, because I can't enjoy the things that we are good at and I can't enjoy the great things around me because I'm burdened by this," Martin said in the interview, according to NY Daily News. "I've got to not blame anyone else and make some changes."
He also confessed that the band's upcoming "Ghost Stories" album is highly influenced by his marital woes.
"Up to a certain point in my life I wasn't completely vulnerable and it caused some problems. If you don't let love in then you can't really give it back," he said. "So what Ghost Stories means to me is like, you've got to open yourself up to love and if you really do, of course it will be painful at times, but then it will be great at some point."
Martin and Paltrow were married for 11 years and have two children together.
Moving on to a lighter topic, Martin opened up about his admiration for the British boy band "One Direction," whom he referred to as "brilliant" and the biggest band in the world. He also debunked earlier rumors that the band members may go solo following their ongoing world tour.
"You know why? Because their songs are really good and I don't think that any of them are going to go solo," he said, according toThe Rolling Stones.
Recently, the singer appeared on NBC's "The Voice" as an adviser to all four of the coaches' teams during the second phase of the Battles Round.
