ESPN analyst and former NFL star Keyshawn Johnson was arrested on domestic violence charges, according to multiple reports.
CBS Los Angeles reports Johnson was arrested at 12:48 a.m. after authorities responded to a possible assault.
"When deputies arrived, it was determined that the resident and his ex-girlfriend were involved in a domestic dispute," Sgt. Carmen Arballo told CBS.
Johnson, 41, was arrested early Monday morning in Calabasas, Calif. after an alleged verbal altercation with his ex-girlfriend turned physical. TMZ reports the couple was allegedly fighting over the topic of marriage when Johnson "smashed her phone," which injured her hand. Johnson was booked at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station.
"Our sources say the two had an up-and-down relationship and were arguing over marriage. Johnson was formally arrested for misdemeanor domestic battery and booked," TMZ reports.
Johnson's bail was set at $20,000, which he paid and was released around 9 a.m. on Monday.
"Johnson played for four teams during his 11-year NFL career, including pit stops with the New York Jets (who originally drafted Johnson first overall in 1996), Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dallas Cowboys and Carolina Panthers," Sports Illustrated reports.
Johnson isn't the only NFL player making headlines because of domestic violence related charges. Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice was arrested and indicted for knocking his fiancée Janay Palmer unconscious and dragging her body out of a New Jersey casino. Rice was indicted on March 29 and married his fiancée the next day.
"We deny Ray Rice committed aggravated assault. Neither Ray nor (his fiancée) Janay Palmer wish to prosecute the matter. Ray and Janay are together. They're happy, and they're in counseling," Michael Diamondstein, Rice's attorney, said in a statement to CBS Sports. "We believe that as a matter of law that Ray Rice did not commit aggravated assault. We ask only that the public reserve judgment until all the facts come to light."
