Auburn University Cancels Classes After Threat Of 'Rampage Of Biblical Proportion'

Auburn University cancelled classes on Wednesday after someone discovered graffiti on a bathroom wall that threatened a "rampage of Biblical proportion," WSB Radio reported.

Around 7 a.m. CST, a message was sent to students notifying them of the incident.

"The Auburn University Department of Public Safety & Security and the Auburn Police learned of a threatening message posted in a campus restroom. While we have substantiated no immediate threat, we have canceled classes and suspended normal university operations today because the safety of our students, faculty and employees is our primary concern," spokesman Mike Clardy said in a statement.

"Law enforcement officials are actively investigating and increasing security in and around campus. As more information becomes available, we will keep the Auburn family and community informed."

The threat read, "To whom it may concern...April 16, 2014, I will unleash a rampage of Biblical proportion across this tiny campus...You have been warned," according to the Opelika-Auburn News.

The student newspaper, The Plainsman, said the message was discovered three weeks ago by a student, who contacted police.

On Tuesday night, authorities contacted the student after the message went viral on social media. Many people on Twitter expressed their fear that the message was threatening a school shooting.

Auburn University, located in Auburn, Alabama, has a population of around 20,000 undergraduate students and over 1,000 faculty members.
