Woman Sues Madame Tussauds Museum After Suffering Burns From Hot Wax

A woman is suing Madame Tussauds wax museum after she burned her hand in hot wax during a visit to the world-famous tourist attraction.

Tahkyia Brady, 34, claims she suffered second-degree burns to her wrist while getting a wax cast of her hand made as a souvenir in April 2013, DNAinfo New York reported. An employee at the gift shop dipped her hand into a cylinder of hot wax.

"My skin came off. I was like, 'Oh my, God,' " Brady, who lives in the Bronx, told DNAinfo.

Brady told the gift shop employee the wax was "really hot." The wax turned out to be 175 degrees. Brady filed a lawsuit Monday with the Bronx Supreme Court.

Brady said she first visited the museum, located on 42nd Street in Times Square, while celebrating her wedding anniversary. A man representing the museum convinced her to check it out.

"I'm a Michael Jackson fan, and the guy said they had a Michael Jackson figure inside, so I decided to go in and see it," Brady told DNAinfo.

The trip concluded with Brady getting a $13 wax mold of her hand made at the gift shop. Brady did not anticipate anything happening.

"There were kids in line doing it, so I was thinking everything was fine," Brady told DNAinfo.

After telling the gift shop employee the wax was hot, the employee dipped her hand in ice water and then put her hand into the wax two more times. Brady was given burn cream to soothe her hand, which was already starting to peel with burned skin, DNAinfo reported.

Brady sought medical attention the next day. By then her forearm was filled with blisters, DNAinfo reported.

Madame Tussauds, which has locations in London, Berlin, Hong Kong and Sydney, did not return DNAinfo's request for comment.
