A NJ Transit train in New Brunswick struck and killed a 50-year-old man leaning in the train's path on Tuesday afternoon, UK MailOnline reported.
Four other passengers were injured by Frank Ferriella's flying body parts after having been struck by the New York-bound express train, CBS New York reported.
Farriella, from Middlesex, was described by witnesses to be leaning into the path of the train from the platform when he was hit. According to NJ transit, he was nowhere near the tracks.
While three of the injured were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick with non-life-threatening injuries, one refused to receive medical attention, CBS New York reported.
None of the Rutgers University students were reported to be involved, the Daily Targum reported.
Describing sounds of screaming and a cracking noise, some other passengers ended up being covered with Farriella's blood.
"There was a loud screech and what I would describe as a crack. Something that really hurt my ears or pierced my hearing." Michael Iaccarino, who witnessed the incident, told ABC 7. "It sounded like it was an express [train] going through, just passing by."
A New Jersey transit spokesman could not confirm the injuries responsible for Farriella's death. According to UK MailOnline, he said the case was under investigation.
Jill Rice, who was on the platform at the time of the incident, told CBS New York, "I could see the trail marks; blood, as if somebody was dragged. And then I saw the cell phone, his hat, his gloves."
A witness, named only as Tony, said, "I almost thought it was a fight or something, from when the train hit him and knocked him into some people."
None of the 300 customers on the train were reported to be injured at the time, NJ Transit said.
Following the accident, Northeast Corridor service was suspended between Penn Station and Trenton. Service had resumed by 6:15 p.m., but was delayed by up to 30 minutes, CBS New York reported.
