An unidentified woman claiming to be the grandmother of two of the so-called "little rascals" bank robbers told reporters that the bank tellers gave the children fake money during their alleged robbery of a Wells Fargo in Harris County, Texas last week.

The woman did not give her name but said she was the grandmother of the 11-year-old and 16-year-old boys who were involved, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

The woman reportedly told a Houston news station how the suspects were apprehended, she was the family member who called police when she saw their pictures on television.

The FBI posted the photos of the three suspects on March 14 in an effort to identify the trio.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office says that around 3 pm that day, the boys passed a threatening letter to a bank teller and got away with an undisclosed amount of cash. However, the grandmother scoffed at the allegations.

"What money? The play money the lady gave them?", she said. Law enforcement officials say the third individual was captured following a weapon call and was recognized by responding officers.

All three were charged with robbery by threat. The grandmother said they were not armed during the bank robbery.

"None of the kids had guns. I don't know where they got that," she said. The woman further stated that two of the three suspects remain in juvenile detention and it was her grandsons' first time in trouble.

"It really hurts me to talk about it," she said. "They learned a lesson, ma'am."

Authorities said names and additional information will not be released because all three suspects are minors.
