Toby Keith's Rowdy Legacy

According to the Associated Press, Keith has been a polarizing figure in country music during his lifetime due to his macho, pro-American swagger and his clashes with other celebrities and journalists. He was also known for pushing back against record executives who wanted to sanitize his branding.

This rowdy personality was credited to his roughneck upbringing as an oil field worker and his stint in semi-pro football in his youth before venturing into country music.
