The Associated Press reported that Kerouac was seeking over $100,000 in damages in a lawsuit filed in a state court in Orlando on Wednesday (January 3), claiming that he suffered "severe and long-term injuries" after he was covered in human feces and urine, and debris after the toilet exploded.

He walked out of the men's room seeking help from workers and the store manager, with one of the employees telling him that they were aware of the "problem with the toilet" since there had been previous incidents, the lawsuit added, without diving into further details about the explosion.

The lawsuit also said that Kerouac suffered "bodily injury" as a result of the explosion and that he had to undergo mental health care and counseling since the incident.

Kerouac was contacted on Thursday, January 4 via email for further details about the incident, but his attorney, Scott Spradley, said that he was tied up and could not answer the questions until Friday (January 5).
