Andre Braugher, who starred in 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' and 'Homicide: Life On The Street,' passed away at 61 on Monday.
Braugher was best known for his character on the police comedy series 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' as Captain Raymond Holt. He appeared in all 153 episodes alongside Andy Samberg and Terry Crews.

According to publicist Jennifer Allen, the longtime TV actor died due to a brief illness on Monday. Crews recently posted a heartfelt tribute on his Instagram, saying, "This hurts. You left us too soon. You taught me so much. I will be forever grateful for the experience of knowing you. Thank you for your wisdom, your advice, your kindness and your friendship."
He extended his deepest condolences to Braugher's wife and family during this challenging time. He added that he showed him what a life well lived looks like.
On Tuesday night, NBC and Universal Television released a statement about Braugher's death. The statement read that Braugher was the actor that others in the profession would always aspire to be as he infused Det. Frank Pembleton on 'Homicide: Life on the Street' with both virtuous ferocity and calm nobility.
The statement acknowledged his skills as a dramatic actor, and his comedy chops were also on full display as the determined and passionate Captain Holt in 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine.' Furthermore, his performances will continue to inspire future generations, and the entertainment industry will miss him tremendously.
According to TMZ, he was survived by his wife, actress Ami Brabson, whom he married in 1991 and has three children.

Who is Andre Braugher?
Braugher's first role in Hollywood in 1993 was the role of Detective Frank Pembleton in the NBC drama 'Homicide: Life on the Street' and appeared in 100 episodes of the TV show.
After landing a role on 'Homicide: Life on the Street,' he played baseball great Jackie Robinson in the TV movie 'The Court-Martial of Jackie Robinson.'
In the TV comedy-drama 'Men of a Certain Age,' he also appeared as famously played used car salesman Owen Thoreau Jr.
He also starred on the big screen with roles in movies including 'Frequency,' 'The Mist,' and 'City of Angels.' His stunning debut was when he played the role of a sensitive soldier in 'Glory,' a 1989 film about a unit of Black soldiers during the Civil War.
Braugher earned a second Emmy in 2006 for the FX miniseries 'Thief,' garnering 11 nominations overall. He received 2 Primetime Emmy Awards among 11 nominations for his decorated TV career.
He was born in Chicago, graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor of Arts in theater, and later attended Juilliard School's Drama Division.
Braugher has proven his versatility throughout his career by performing on stage at the New York Shakespeare Festival and voicing the villainous Darkseid in the animated 'Superman/Batman: Apocalypse.'
