HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA - MARCH 12: Dwayne Johnson attends the 95th Annual Academy Awards on March 12, 2023 in Hollywood, California.

Johnson said on his first guest appearance on Trevor Noah's new Spotify podcast 'What Now?' that the 2021 poll of 30,000 American adults led multiple political parties to approach and ask him to run for the US presidency at the end of 2022.

Johnson said that was an interesting poll, and he was really moved by the results. He said that he was blown away and honored at the same time as he got a visit from the parties and asked him if he would run and if he could run.

He explained that running for president was a big deal and out of the blue. He said that Americans brought up the poll on their own and research that would prove that he should be a presidential candidate.

He admitted that joining politics was never one of his goals, and he hated many things about politics. However, Johnson labeled himself as a centrist and politically independent.

According to GQ, he said that the thought of being governor and president was alluring in 2016. In 2020, he endorsed President Biden's campaign and shared that he was interested in running as president in the past.

He told Variety that he was considering running for president in 2024, as in the years between 2018 and 2021, he was still busy with shooting.

Johnson wrote on Instagram, "I don't think our Founding Fathers EVER envisioned a six-four, bald, tattooed, half-Black, half-Samoan, tequila drinking, pick up truck driving, fanny pack wearing guy joining their club - but if it ever happens it'd be my honour to serve you, the people."

Johnson Changes Decision on Running for US Presidency

According to CBS News, Johnson changed his mind about running as president due to his duties as a parent of three daughters, who are now aged 22, seven, and five.

He said being a father was the most important thing for him, especially during this time, which he described as a critical time in his daughters' lives.

Johnson shared on Noah's podcast that his career as a wrestler took him away from his eldest daughter, Simone. He said he does not want the same for his little ones.

He said being a father was one of the primary discussions with the parties wanting him to run for the presidency.

However, he did not exclude the idea of running in the future. He said he would undoubtedly consider running if people wanted him to run.
