Proposed To On Instagram, More Couples Accept Social Media Marriage Proposals

More and more people are proposing to their significant others on social media, New York Magazine reported.

Diddy is quite possibly among the social media engagement trend, posting a picture on Instagram of a diamond engagement ring on Feb. 1 and asking his girlfriend Cassie if she liked it.

NY Mag spoke to Jenna Caine, who became engaged via Instagram to her fiancé Neil Parris.

Parris, 35, created an Instagram account, @thestoryofjennaandneil for the sole purpose of proposing to Caine, 32. The account is a 42 picture slideshow detailing their two-year relationship from the time they met to when they lived together in Los Angeles, NY Mag reported.

Parris popped the big question when Caine, a recruiter and wedding singer, came home from work one Friday night.

"[Parris] said 'Sit down, I have something on Instagram to show you. Look up the account @thestoryofjennaandniel and put it in scroll mode.' "

Caine said that Parris, a digital media executive, set up two cameras along with rose petals and candles.

"He positioned me in front of the cameras," Caine told NY Mag, "I started reading everything, and I was in shock, literally, in complete shock. I was so blown away, and I could hardly read anything because I was so excited."

The grand finale came when Caine got to the last picture in the slideshow. The last slide said "Will you...," while telling Caine to look up. When she did, Parris was waiting on bended knee, NY Mag reported.

Caine and Parris have scheduled their wedding for Sep. 20. Caine shared the Instagram account with all of her friends on Facebook. Strangers also commented on her post. But Caine doesn't mind. It's just the result of living in an age when social media is increasingly immersed in everyday life.

"It's awesome. It's such a new way of being proposed to. It's so 2014," Caine told NY Mag.
