China allegedly sequenced the COVID-19 genome days before the outbreak was known to the world.

This revelation was confirmed by independent investigators, saying that it was part of Beijing's COVID-19 cover-up.

A model of COVID-19, known as coronavirus, is seen ahead of testimony from Dr. Francis Collins, Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), during a US Senate Appropriations subcommittee hearing on the plan to research, manufacture and distribute a coronavirus vaccine, known as Operation Warp Speed, July 2, 2020 on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.

According to the Express UK's latest report, the information about China's COVID-19 genome sequencing was revealed in the conversations between Edward Holmes and his colleagues.

The Daily Mail UK reported that Holmes, a virologist professor at the University of Sydney, disclosed this information in private messages between three other scientists in Australia, the U.S., and Britain.

The controversial discussions on the Slack messaging system were revealed in the Proximal Origins paper, which was published in the Nature Medicine journal

During their conversations, Prof. Holmes talked to his colleague Prof. Kristian Andersen, an evolutionary biologist at the Scripps Research Institute in California.

Edward told Kristian that he should not be fooled by "George Gao. He added that the CDC had a genome sequence on December 26, 2019.

"They told people it would not pass between humans. Endless cover-ups," he added.

When Prof. Holmes mentioned CDC, he was referring to the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

What's the Issue?

A Chinese man leaves the Beijing Center for Disease Prevention and Control as the country deals with the H7N9 bird flu virus on April 18, 2013. China has confirmed a total of 82 human cases of H7N9 avian influenza since announcing about two weeks ago that it had found the strain in people for the first time. Health authorities in China say they do not know exactly how the virus is spreading.

The issue with China's alleged COVID-19 genome sequencing is that it wasn't shared with the world in real-time.

Instead, the Chinese CDC only shared this critical medical achievement for more than two weeks.
The information was even relayed by a Chinese scientist who was defying Beijing during the peak of the outbreak.

Prof. Holmes said that the Chinese CDC was definitely trying to rewrite what happened.

"As more information about the early stages of the pandemic emerges, we see a disturbing pattern of efforts to hide critical information," explained Biosafety Now co-founder Bryce Nickels.

Genome sequencing was critical during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic because its information can be used to develop effective vaccines and diagnostic tests.

This is why China is being criticized for being late to share details about it.
