As the United States (US) 2024 elections are right around the corner, a new voting technology is set to launch later this year or before 2023 ends.

States these days are currently monitoring the technology of elections on their own. Given that, the US non-profit group, Center for Internet Security or the CIS seeks to change the status quo.

US 2024 Elections: New Voting System to Protect Poll Technology Launches Soon

As per a report by The Pubic Radio, CIS is now gearing up to kick off the first-ever uniform testing program for voting technology, like how it works for the voting machines used every election.

Tech Times notes that the non-profit group CIS primarily aims to improve the cybersecurity of various organizations and individuals. This time, it focuses on the stature of the US elections.

The Public Radio states that various US states are responsible for looking at the technology during elections, such as the database of voter registration, the electronic polls books, and the online platforms that provide initially unofficial results. And as such, no central voting system looks into these technologies.

But things might change soon. CIS plan to launch the new central voting system for election technology sometime in September. The voluntary service seeks to uphold the reliability and security of polls moving forward. It should be ready in time for the upcoming 2024 presidential elections in the US.

Federal Commission Pushes its Own Voting System for Technology

However, it seems like the CIS is not alone in pursuing this endeavor. According to Interesting Engineering, the federal commission is also looking to test a new voting system for election technology, specifically electronic poll books.

In fact, the officials of the federal commission announced that they have started making some progress with the new program.

But despite that, Interesting Engineering points out that the project of the federal commission is still in its early stages. And as such, it is less likely to be ready in time for the upcoming 2024 US presidential elections.

Given that, it might take some time before the new voting system of the federal commission sees the light of day in the polls.

However, the development of a centralized voting system that safeguards technology during elections critically needs to speed up as the use of electronic systems in polls significantly expands. With that, it was the target of cyberattacks, with an incident in 2016 allegedly involving Russian hackers. Not to mention that some spread conspiracy theories to undermine the integrity of the polls.
