Israeli President Isaac Herzog took to social media to issue a warning for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu amid the intensifying protests prompted by the PM's measure to impose changes in the judicial system.

Tens of thousands of enraged Israelis took to the streets on Sunday night after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fired his defense minister for being against his Israel Judicial Reform plan.

In Tel Aviv, demonstrators shut down a major thoroughfare and burned massive bonfires, while in Jerusalem, demonstrators and police fought outside Netanyahu's residence.

President Isaac Herzog Urges to Stop Israeli Judicial Reform

According to NBC News, the removal of Defense Minister Yoav Gallant by Netanyahu was seen as a hint that the Prime Minister and his supporters will go through with the Israel Judicial Reform this week.

Yoav Gallant, a prominent Likud party member, called for a halt to the contentious Israel Judicial Reform plan of Benjamin Netanyahu, claiming significant differences endangered the military, per an earlier HNGN report.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog said on Facebook on Monday, urging Benjamin Netanyahu and his administration to halt the Israel Judicial Reform measures, according to CNN.

"The eyes of the whole world are on you," President Isaac Herzog posted on Facebook.

The Israeli leader added that the public is experiencing "widespread anxiety" about the situation's impact on the country's economy and security.

"For the sake of the unity of Israelis, for the sake of committed responsibility, I call on you to halt the legislative procedure immediately," Isaac Herzog stated.

Along with the eruption of sudden demonstrations, the Constitution Committee of the Knesset was working on finishing up foundational legislation that would give the coalition almost unlimited authority over selecting Israeli judges.

Simcha Rothman, the committee's chairman, said they would continue meeting at 8:00 am. The Knesset plenum will hear the bill's final readings Monday night.

The overhaul's adversaries have declared the judicial appointments legislation unconstitutional, who claim it would seriously damage Israel's democratic character and politicize the judiciary.

A different Knesset committee approved measures Sunday night that would prohibit the High Court from blocking ministerial appointments, allowing ultra-Orthodox Shas party leader Aryeh Deri to return to the cabinet, per a Times of Israel report.

As the outrage over Gallant's dismissal grows, a coalition of universities has called for a nationwide Israel strike to begin on Monday.
