In just over two weeks, residents of South Carolina will get tax rebates of up to $800. Who is entitled to receive theirs?

A tax rebate of up to $800 will give South Carolina residents who have filed their 2021 tax returns a great start to the New Year.

The precise amount that recipients will receive from this payment will depend on their 2021 tax liability, which is defined as the amount remaining after deducting tax credits from their income tax liability.

When to Receive South Carolina Tax Rebates?

According to the South Carolina Department of Revenue, people whose tax liabilities are less than $800 will receive tax rebates equal to their tax liabilities, while filers with tax liabilities of $800 or more will receive exactly $800.

This payment will be made to the same bank account from which individuals received their 2021 refund. Residents of South Carolina who file their 2021 SC1040 tax returns by October 17 can anticipate receiving this refund by December 31.

Those who wish to estimate when they will receive their payment can do so by tracking their payments online. To use the tracking website, individuals will need either their Social Security number or the Individual Taxpayer Identification Number from their SC1040 form.

According to state law, the Department of Revenue has placed a $800 cap on the maximum amount of this rebate that individuals can receive. The deadline for individuals who have not yet filed their tax returns is February 15, 2023, after which recipients will receive their refund in March 2023, as per Washington Examiner.

This year, more than one million South Carolinians have received an early Christmas gift from the South Carolina Department of Revenue. The department announced Wednesday that approximately 1.39 million tax rebates totaling more than $942 million have been issued to taxpayers over the past four weeks.

Where's my Tax Rebate?

In June, state legislators approved the parameters for a $1 billion tax rebate for South Carolinians. Taxpayers who were eligible have received up to $800 via direct deposit or paper checks.

The department previously stated that all tax rebates for taxpayers who filed their returns by October 17 would be mailed before the end of the year. What happens if you filed by October 17 and have not received a refund?

  • If you had no tax liability, you did not qualify for a rebate. If you had no tax liability, you did not qualify for a tax rebate.

  • If you check your status online and it indicates the refund was issued, but you did not receive it, wait 30 days after the date the refund was issued, then submit Form SC3911, Individual Income Tax Refund Tracer.

  • Visit dor.sc.gov/rebate-2022 to check on the status of your rebate.

  • You will need your SSN or ITIN, as well as line 10 from your 2021 South Carolina Individual Income Tax Return (SC1040).

  • There may be bank-specific procedures that affect when your deposit is available in your account.

  • It takes longer to receive checks sent via mail.

If you received a paper check:

You notified the department by November 1 of a change in your banking information.

  • You received your refund for 2021 via paper check or debit card.

  • You had an outstanding balance but did not receive a refund.

  • You received your 2021 tax refund through the account of a tax preparer.

  • Your direct deposit tax rebate was originally issued to a closed account. In such a case, the rebate would be returned to the department, which would then issue a paper check, according to AOL.
