Philip Seymour Hoffman Dead Update: Accused Heroin Dealer Linked to Amy Winehouse, Other Celebrities who Overdosed?

The man accused of selling the late actor Philip Seymour Hoffman drugs was reportedly also friends with other celebrities who died from drug overdoses. According to TMZ, Robert Vineberg, 57, is a well-known musician who surrounded himself with other celebrities and musicians.

Among his group of friends was Amy Winehouse and NYC artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. Sources told the site that Vineberg and Basquiat would often use heroin together during the '80s at Vineberg's apartment. Basquiat, who was close friends with Andy Warhol, died of a heroin overdose in 1988.

Sources claim that Vineberg was also close with Winehouse but there's no proof that the two did drugs together. The "Rehab" singer died in 2011 from acute alcohol poisoning after years of using drugs.

Vineberg was arrested in connection to Hoffman's Feb. 2 death. The "Hunger Games" actor was found dead in his NYC apartment from an apparent drug overdose. According to the Associated Press, police discovered 300 packets of heroin in Vineberg's home during the arrest.

The musician admitted to being a heroin addict but denies selling Hoffman the drugs found in his apartment. His stepdaughter Christine Soto told the New York Post that the actor did pay a visit to her father but claims it had nothing to do with drugs.

Soto said Vineberg had not seen Hoffman since November.

"He Said, 'If he would have come to me, I would have told him to slow down, and if you're going to do something, make sure you have someone with you,'" she said.

"My father thought of him very highly. He was a great actor and a wonderful man," Soto added.

Soto claims her father sold drugs to "help pay his rent" because he couldn't find a job but insists that he "was not the main guy."

"He wasn't the one doing the cutting and bagging," she said. "He was just trying to make ends meet."
