Reese Witherspoon Speaks About Arrest: 'I was so Disrespectful'

Actress Reese Witherspoon spoke about her April 19 arrest in Atlanta for the first with Good Morning America's George Stephanopoulos. She sat down with him for a live interview on Thursday.

Stephanopoulos wasted no time getting straight to the arrest news. When asked what happened, Reese replied that it was just one of those nights.

"We went out to dinner in Atlanta, had one too many glasses of wine," Witherspoon told Stephanopoulos. "We thought we were fine to drive and we absolutely were not. And it's just completely unacceptable. And we are so sorry and embarrassed. And we know better."

She said her and her husband, Jim Toth, used bad judgment that night and should have just called a car service. When asked why she asked the police officer if he knew who she was, the actress responded that she was fully aware of what she was saying that night and shouldn't have asked him that.

Witherspoon says she panicked when she saw her husband was getting arrested and started saying a lot of crazy things. She even told the officer she was pregnant, which she told Stephanopoulos she is not.

"I was so disrespectful to him. I have police officers in my family. I work with police officers every day. I know better," she told "GMA".

Witherspoon has reached out the Atlanta police department to offer an apology and says next time she will just listen and stay in the car.

Both Witherspoon and her husband are scheduled to appear in an Atlanta Municipal Court heating. Witherspoon's is May 22 and her husband's is May 23.

Witherspoon appeared on the morning talk show to promote her new movie "Mud." In the movie she plays Juniper, the love interest of a fugitive who becomes friends with two Arkansas teenagers.
