Pinterest's mobile version underwent major makeover on Thursday to give its users a better experience and expand the service global users.
The pinboard-style photo-sharing website is reportedly seeing an increased usage of its application from mobile users. Because of that, it has thought of revamping its mobile app version to deliver an experience closely similar to what users experience when using smartphones, tablets, and desktop computers.
TechCrunch reported that 75 percent of the total usage of the service is coming from its mobile app. However, it declined to detail the percentage of the traffic distribution on Android, iOS, and other platforms.
Changes applied to the mobile app include features like the more useful pins, which are embedded with added information, and related pins, which are personalized suggestions from the site. It also includes updates to existing features like the sign-up flow, board page, and board picker.
The newly-overhauled app also adopted the latest web frameworks, for a more modular code that is easier to develop and quick to share with mobile and desktop apps, which will make changes in one platform quickly visible to another platform.
Aside from enhancing mobile user experience, it will also prepare the company for its international expansion efforts to Indonesia and translation into Korean.
"As we launch in new countries around world, we want to make it easy for everyone to access Pinterest-no matter where you are or what device you're using. That's why we recently updated our mobile website," Pinterest Software Engineer Tracy Chou wrote on her blog post.
She also implied that with the latest mobile version of Pinterest, users can do whatever they used to do on any Pinterest platform, like browsing, saving pins, creating new pinboards, and many more.
Pinterest noted that there will be more changes for its mobile user application in the near future. However, it didn't give out details yet.
